Policy BG/TC: Improving tree canopy cover and the tree population

Representation ID: 202940

Received: 29/01/2026

Respondent: Cambridge City Council Liberal Democrat Group

Representation Summary:

We support this policy. It could be a little clearer that newly planted trees or existing trees next to new buildings must be given enough room to expand to full maturity (both canopy and roots) over the full time period of their life time, to avoid future issue around subsidence or the need to reduce or remove the tree in future. Root protection barriers or suitably deep foundations should be put in place when developments are built to prevent loss of trees in the future.

Representation ID: 202956

Received: 29/01/2026

Respondent: Cambridge City Council Liberal Democrat Group

Representation Summary:

We welcome the council's exploration of how best to provide open spaces. We note that open spaces near to housing are vital to successful placemaking and that off site provision should not replace the need for open spaces accessible to residents nearby.

Representation ID: 203028

Received: 29/01/2026

Respondent: Cambridge City Council Liberal Democrat Group

Representation Summary:

We support this policy but would like to add on something around gambling and betting harm and restrictions on such outlets to avoid large concentrations in one area. We would support further evidence being gathered on this now so it could be included at Regulation 19.

Policy WS/NC: Meeting the needs of new and growing Communities

Representation ID: 203034

Received: 29/01/2026

Respondent: Cambridge City Council Liberal Democrat Group

Representation Summary:

We support this policy but note that the timely delivery of services and facilities in early phases (para 6) is critical to new developments and must be resourced and enforced. We are currently lacking means to enforce delayed infrastructure which has knock on effects for our new communities so the LPA and the local plan needs to be clearer about penalties that could be applied for delays in bringing key facilities forward.
