Pushing development beyond the Green Belt without excellent sustainable transport will increase our carbon emissions due to increased car usage.

Sites should be examined with regard to their sustainability and impact on the character and biodiversity of the area. Whether the site is inside or outside the Green Belt should be a secondary factor.

Sites for new developments must have excellent public services & transport infrastructure. The loss of large amounts of agricultural land and biodiversity assets should be resisted.

Development in our villages, especially the smaller ones, is contrary to the aim of lowering carbon emissions in the district due to increasing private car usage. In some circumstances building homes on rural brownfield sites could generate more carbon emissions than their current use.

This strategy only replaces car journeys to and from Cambridge, or along the route of the principle public transport route. Conversely development in or near Cambridge can access public transport to multiple destinations throughout the district.

The combination of Local Plan polices S/7 Development Frameworks and S/11 Infill Villages are effective for small villages like ours and easy to understand.
