BG/RC: River Corridors

Representation ID: 59058

Received: 13/12/2021

Respondent: Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB)

Representation Summary:

The RSPB supports the policy direction set out. However, we believe that it could usefully be extended to include the Great Ouse river corridor which passes through the northern edge of the plan area. There may be floodplain restoration opportunities here as well as in the Cam catchment. The Environment Agency are currently undertaking a Gt Ouse Flood Storage and Conveyancing study to look further at opportunities for this.

BG/PO: Protecting open spaces

Representation ID: 59059

Received: 13/12/2021

Respondent: Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB)

Representation Summary:

The RSPB supports a policy which will protect open spaces in local communities, as they are important for physical and mental health and for nurturing people’s connection with nature (particularly when they also achieve biodiversity benefits). An RSPB report (‘Recovering Together’ – 2021) undertaken since our previous consultation response shows widespread support from people in England for green space retention and provision, and in particular the importance for improved provision amongst deprived communities (which often have much worse provision and access).

Wellbeing and inclusion

Representation ID: 59072

Received: 13/12/2021

Respondent: Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB)

Representation Summary:

As in our previous comments, RSPB research has shown widespread support from communities in the East of England for greater and easier access to greenspace, recognising the physical and mental health benefits of being outdoors and in nature, and the current disparities amongst communities. We fully support policies that aim to increase provision and access, whilst also helping to meet biodiversity objectives.

GP/QP: Establishing high quality landscape and public realm

Representation ID: 59077

Received: 13/12/2021

Respondent: Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB)

Representation Summary:

RSPB supports the policy direction outlined.

Under the Enhanced Connectivity expectations first bullet we suggest it could be usefully expanded to include local landscape and habitats as well as public realm per se.

Under Response to Climate expectations we suggest inclusion in the second bullet of the need to prevent the introduction of new, or expansion of existing invasive species.
