North East Cambridge Area Action Plan Issues and Options 2019

Question 65: Do you support the plan requiring delivery of site wide approaches to issues such as energy and water, as well as the use of BREEAM Communities International Technical Standard at the mas

Representation ID: 33032

Received: 25/03/2019

Respondent: Cambridge Water

Representation Summary:

Cambridge water supports a site wide approach to water management as this is an effective way of implementing water efficiency standards beyond 110 l/p/d for domestic properties, and BREAAM Outstanding standards for non-residential buildings by including site wide water recycling and re-use. Consideration of site wide water consumption standards to 80 l/p/d at the masterplan stage can ensure that the required infrastructure is made available to support lower consumption of potable water, in an area of water stress, where available abstractions from public water supplies are reducing. There is a synergy between sustainable water consumption, and energy for heating water.

Question 65: Do you support the plan requiring delivery of site wide approaches to issues such as energy and water, as well as the use of BREEAM Communities International Technical Standard at the mas

Representation ID: 33037

Received: 25/03/2019

Respondent: Cambridge Water

Representation Summary:

Cambridge Water support the inclusion in planning permissions the BREAAM communities technical standards, and welcome engagement with the master planner to set design standards for the development. We would advocate that water consumption standards are 80 l/p/d, as the development is in an area of water stress, with increasing water demands due to growth and predicted reductions in water availability. We would be happy to collaborate on any water management strategy and identify opportunities for design options to reduce water consumption

Question 66: Are there additional issues we should consider in developing the approach to deliver an exemplar development?

Representation ID: 33038

Received: 25/03/2019

Respondent: Cambridge Water

Representation Summary:

Cambridge Water has experience of collaboration at the design stage for implementing a site wide, dual pipe water recycling scheme at Eddington, and would welcome similar engagement for this development. We are committed to supporting developments with water efficiency standards above those required by planning.
