Summary: The renewable energy and infrastructure policy needs to address the problems distributing electricity more effectively. Also there should be greater emphasis on encouraging property owners (developers, residential owners, landlords and commercial) to fit solar panels to roofs.

1. We have recently retrofitted insulation to our house in Grantchester, but both us and our neighbour were unable to install an air source heat pump because the cable in the road would not take the power load. UK Power Networks would have required at least £19,000 from us to upgrade the cable. We both still burn oil as a result. I suspect many Cambridgeshire villages have inadequate electricity cables, which will block the installation of fast charging for electric cars and Air Source Heat Pumps.

2. There are many, many roofs which could be have solar panels installed. The Cambridgeshire Solar Together initiative was a small step to improve this, but much more could be done.
