I am writing on behalf of Histon & Impington Community Land Trust to express our support for the proposed development at Cambridge Science Park North, which is being promoted for allocation through the emerging Greater Cambridge Local Plan.

The proposal will create a wide range of employment, training and education opportunities in the expanding mid-tech and advanced manufacturing sectors, benefitting the villages.

There is justification for providing greater support for community-led housing in Greater Cambridge.

Provision should be included to require that:
substantial weight be given to exception sites coming forward which meet planning policy requirements and which are led by a legitimate local community group such as a Parish Council or Community Land Trust. The policy should require that the scheme,

• has general community support, with evidence of meaningful public engagement,

• will be well managed and financially viable over the long term

and that any benefits provided by the scheme can be retained by the local community in perpetuity.

Cambridge Science Park North will create approximately 80 ha of publicly accessible green space, including meadows, walking and cycling routes and parkland. This provides vital recreational opportunities that the village lack, having one of the lowest green space ratios to population in the district.

The long term future of our village, as a thriving integrated non-dormitory community, will be enhanced by the co-operation of the development offers. Cambridge Science Park North may increase local property prices and therefore ensuring affordable‑housing is available is urgent. We would hope to engage the developers in supporting our work as part of the very special circumstances that would allow the development to be approved.
