The Plan should be clear about how it will deliver on the ambitions of the Oxford-Cambridge Arc. The National Trust supports the strategic spatial planning approach being applied to the Ox-CamArc but it appears that a substantial amount of housing may be planned for and delivered through the Local Plan at an earlier stage due to conflicting timescales.

The National Trust supports this policy but feels it should be stronger in encouraging the provision of new woodland of locally appropriate species. This is linked to the Trust’s commitment to plant and establish 20 million trees in the next 10 years across an area of 18,000 ha throughout the UK.

We are currently exploring options and opportunities across Cambridgeshire. We consider that local planning authorities should work with relevant partners to identify and support a county wide tree planting ambition for inclusion in the Local Plan. There are real opportunities in the south west of the area to create some great woodland. For example, West Cambs Hundreds and out towards Wimpole as per the Cambridge Nature Network plans.

The National Trust supports this policy and notes that it will reflect national planning policy. We acknowledge that there are some limited circumstances where development is acceptable, or where very special circumstances are clearly demonstrated which might outweigh harm to the Green Belt. Green Belts have the potential to deliver much more public benefit.
The National Trust supports this policy and notes that it will reflect national planning policy. The Cambridge Green Belt has proved effective at protecting the historic landscape setting of the city of Cambridge for some 50 years.
We acknowledge that there are some limited circumstances where development is acceptable, or where very special circumstances are clearly demonstrated which might outweigh harm to the Green Belt.
Green Belts have the potential to deliver much more public benefit. We would like to see the quality of land improved for people and for nature, with more space for wildlife and better access for those living in nearby cities and towns. Green Belt land could also play an important role in helping the UK tackle climate change and
reduce the risk of flooding in urban areas.

Many existing services and facilities are operating close to their limits (including visitor facilities at Trust properties) and the impact of additional population pressure on tourist facilities and visitor attractions is likely to be harmful if such facilities are not able to flex or adapt to meet increasing demands.

Existing and new communities need to be integrated with public and active transport routes across Local Plan area and beyond, in order to build a strong economy and ensure access to jobs, education, training, and deliver wellbeing, through access to the natural and historic environment, including green space. Provision for low carbon, electric vehicles is also important.
