It is crucial that Greater Cambridge plans for making neighbourhoods conducive to encouraging healthy lifestyles, with good provision for sport and physical activity, including footpaths and cycleways. It is critical that the emerging Local Plan contains policies that seek to protect existing sports facilities that are important to meeting the needs of local residents, and also policies that encourage the development of new facilities that encourage people to take part in sport and physical activity such as walking, cycling etc. Sport England have developed 'Active Design' which gives guidance on making new areas suitable for sport and physical activity. We would like to see 'Active Design' referenced in this policy.
