Greater Cambridge is dominated by high end tech and science jobs. There is not enough diversity of opportunity. For climate change we need a higher level industrial strategy across the county. Some lost industries should be onshored, reducing global transport emissions and not relying on Chinese coal powered electricity for manufacturing. Cambridgeshire as a county should play a role in that. Cambridge Science Park North presented an opportunity to create a different type of hub, with technical development roles which are lacking in this county and the country. It also had excellent transport links across county.

Cambridge Science Park North offers the type of industrial technical jobs and a centre of excellence that woudl be a real asset. With the location in Impington it could provide this with a site accessed by active travel and public transport (as long as intelligence restrictions were implemented) I would like this site reconsidered.

Need to talk to industry about their ideas. My brother works in this area and he has far more creative solutions but they need to be supported at planning stage. Eg. in blocks of flats if you're offering a last mile ebike/scooter option can you either park your scooter loaded up with stock securely in the flats or take it in the lift? This level of detail must be in the plan. Please talk to industry, I know that the officers writing the NE Cambridge travel statement had not spoken to industry about this at that stage.

parking proposals for bikes need to be bolder. Cambridge local plan currently says fewer than one cycle space per room in shared accommodation. This needs a complete re-write. Need to assume multiple bikes of different types per person, space for cycle maintenance, secure storage and storage that feels safe e.g. for women at night. Need community wide spaces for shared facilities e.g. bike trailers and e-cargobikes. Also need to use section 106 money to retrofit neighbouring communities so that they aren't left behind, e.g. Kings Hedges/ Arbury even Orchard Park not sufficient facilities for cycle storage compared to NE Cambridge.

No mention of cycle safety - villages often have rubbish cycle storage, no space for cycle trailers, Cambridge has appalling bike crime. None of these proposals work if you don't improve cycle storage and cycle safety. It is part of the mix of this issue.

Does this mean that planning will be supportive of creative solutions including within domestic design?
Only part of the waste picture. Difficult to run any domestic recycling or repair operation in this area as economic model struggles (rents too high). You have to go to St Ives or Newmarket or Saffron Walden to find really good second hand furniture shops - there's a tiny bit here and there.
Would be great to have a re-use economy here including library of things - would need top level support and spaces allocated. The economics don't seem to work. Needs more support.
