Greater Cambridge Local Plan Preferred Options

Representation ID: 56793

Received: 04/12/2021

Respondent: Prof James Kirkbride

Representation Summary:

Current proposals for an extended bus network by the greater Cambridgeshire mayor need to be abandoned. With the projected growth to the area you propose we need radical, transformative sustainable travel alternatives that persuade people to switch from their car to either active travel or mass public transit. Buses and guided busways will not achieve this. People view buses as uncomfortable, dirty, low class options. Cambridge is the flattest city in the UK and ideal for rapid mass transit like trams or light rail. Such a network would be efficient, reliable, desirable & implementable on major arteries into Cambridge
