Yes, this is a good idea. So much shopping happens online now that it is shortsighted to focus on retail-only spaces. It would be better to integrate retail space with community facilities, so that there are many reasons to visit the area. Further, as a parent of a young child, I find shopping in central Cambridge difficult because my child wants to run around and there are very few suitable spaces where we can spend time, especially if the weather is bad. It would be fantastic if the development could include some sort of indoor or soft play facility, perhaps incorporating a spacious, child-friendly cafe. Germany has lots of facilities like this - called Kinder Cafes. This would be a useful facility in its own right for locals, but would also make shopping trips much easier.
