New searchI really like the emphasis on planning for our future environment - both climate and biodiversity, building mini town centres and prioritising sustainable transport.

I live locally to this development, and somewhere that is hard to get to from this area is Madingley Road and Eddington. There are no direct bus routes linking these two areas (the only way to get there by bus is via two buses) despite North East Cambridge being primarily residential and Madingley Road having a lot of work places. Currently, the path from Milton Road to Cambridge North Station does not feel safe to walk along alone at night, as a woman. I assume this would improve as the area becomes more developed but something to consider.

I think the idea of integrating these centres with local communities is important - I live off Milton Road and there are no cafes, bars and restaurants close by. This would be a huge improvement to this area. I think independent bars, cafes and restaurants should be encouraged and prioritised - the last thing Cambridge needs is another chain coffee shop or restaurant. Cambridge has a growing reputation for food, coffee and street food and this should be considered and encouraged.

Building new schools is great. A big drawback about living in this area currently is the fact that the schools don't have great reputations. Currently there are no local schools in the immediate area I would feel happy sending my child to, compared to what is available in other parts of Cambridge. It would be important to make sure these schools have good reputations. In keeping with the climate and biodiversity focused ethos, the schools should have their own, or access to, green space for learning - e.g. forest schools. A visual and performing arts hub is great in theory - how well used would this be in practice?

As Cambridge is so flat we aren't renowned for our views so there is no risk of building height limiting views! It would be good if buildings are able to see green space.

Another issue with living in this area of Cambridge is that we are quite far from substantial green spaces - from Milton Road it is quite a long walk before you reach the river and commons. There appears to be a lot of green space in the plans distributed around the area, and its great that a lot of green space is being integrated with people's every day lives. I think the plans could benefit from having a large, open space somewhere, in addition to the smaller green spaces, (perhaps in the centre of the community/bottom edge where we are further from the river and Milton Country Park.).

Traffic on Milton Road is already really bad and it is good that, in theory, this will not add to that load. Any development in Cambridge should make walking, cycling or using public transport the easiest option - this is the only way to reduce car use in Cambridge. As a city renowned for cycling, the council should be doing everything they can to make us a flagship city within the UK, and even Europe, for green transport. To me, it seems a no brainer to introduce a congestion charge to enter Cambridge - there is no excuse for driving within the city centre. I think it is great that this development is doing so much to encourage a greener way of travelling.
