We would like to comment on the proposed connection to Milton Country Park. Under the current access model for the Country Park there are no public rights of way through the facility and access is permissive. This is important for operational reasons as there are a number of occasions each year where we must have the ability to close the park to the public. This can be for special events in part or the whole of the park and also for weather related safety reasons. We are very much supportive of there being a physical connection between North East Cambridge and Milton Country Park but would like to be consulted on and involved with the detailed design of how the connection can best me made to also work alongside the proposed Cambridge Country Park and Sport Lakes.

We welcome the proposed connection to Milton Country Park but it should be noted that the facility is already operating at capacity on many days, especially through the peak season. It will therefore be necessary for the facilities at Milton Country Park to be improved and the physical size of the park to be expanded.

We do not think that the open space provision is adequate for the volume of residents that is planned. We are very supportive of the facilities at Milton Country Park and the proposed Cambridge Country Park and Sport Lakes being utilised as part of the solution to this issue.

The improvements to the immediate Area Action Plan site should be commended. If increased footfall is encouraged into Milton Country Park then this may have an impact on the biodiversity of adjacent areas. If this were to be the case then mitigation measures would need to be considered.

The plans for the immediate Area Action Plan site are clearly evolving but the bias towards discouraging car travel is good. The potential behaviour changes of not just the residents but those who travel into the area for work or leisure purposes will obviously need to be carefully considered. We believe that the development will increase the parking pressure on the existing facilities at Milton Country Park and consideration will need to be given to enhancing the volume and quality of hard standing parking at the site.

We would like more consideration to be given to the role that Milton Country Park and the proposed Cambridge Sport Lakes and Country Park can play in supporting the impact of North East Cambridge on climate change. The carbon sink / offset opportunities that could be achieved, by working in partnership, are significant.
