Greater Cambridge Local Plan: Proposed Submission

Following the Greater Cambridge First proposals consultation in 2021, the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) have been working with Greater Cambridge Shared Planning service in regard to the requirement and wording for a policy that safeguards the activities and supports future operational military development needs at Bassingbourn Barracks and Barton Road Rifle Range. We are supportive of both the wording in part 9 of policy I/SI and the supporting information at paragraph 10.57 which align with paragraphs 102 and 200 of the 2024 NPPF.

Whilst the Plan will proceed under the 2024 NPPF, the 2026 NPPF sections P1, P4 and P6 strengthens support for and protection of defence sites through planning policy. Policy I/SI also closely aligns with this update.
