Greater Cambridge Local Plan: Proposed Submission
Policy S/GF: Land adjacent to A11 and A1307 at Grange Farm
Representation Summary:
I am writing on behalf of LintonFROG, a group of volunteers who work to protect our precious local chalk stream, the River Granta, and its adjacent environment.
We object strongly to the proposals for development of the Grange Farm site in Abington.
We believe this will have negative impact on the local environment:
1) 5000 houses means more traffic with inadequate public transport
2) Loss of high quality farmland.
3) Light pollution
Change suggested by respondent:
We believe this will have negative impact on the local environment:
1) 5000 houses means more cars on the A1307, as adequate public transport for this site has been neither planned nor funded. Pollutants in the air, the ground water and therefore the chalk aquifer, and run off to the River Granta itself. Adequate provision of public transport, including an extension to the Grange Farm site itself needs to be in place BY THE TIME the houses are complete. This has not been planned or funded.
2) Loss of high quality farmland means a negative impact on food security, already acknowledged to be an important risk to national security.
3) The site slopes up to an elevation significantly higher than most of Cambridgeshire. This means it will be visible from far away and will contribute to light pollution
