Greater Cambridge Local Plan: Proposed Submission
Policy S/GF: Land adjacent to A11 and A1307 at Grange Farm
Respondent: Weston Colville Parish Council
Representation Summary:
The site is unsuitable, as it sits over the main aquifer providing the water supply for Cambridge. Its elevated position, on productive agricultural land, will dominate adversely the rural skyline. Access roads are only planned on/off the A1307, which CCC has already designated a road of high risk, while the A11 is ignored. Public transport to/from Cambridge is planned, which may be an admirable aim, but fails to take into account one's time. Private cars will inevitably dominate, as seen elsewhere. Provision of services, medical, shops, leisure outlets, primary schooling is either of limited use, or missing. Ill thought out.
Change suggested by respondent:
Use a brown field site within the city of Cambridge limit, of which there are plenty, and leave the countryside for food production. Wrong place: no water, over the aquifer, on agricultural land. This is the creation of a new town, without that designation. If Cambridge needs to build homes, which we would dispute, build them in Cambridge. It has been suggested that additional housing provision should be along the EWR route, where public transport will already in place, if that is deemed important. This is an overwhelming number of properties, swamping local villages already straining to provide services to the existing population.
