Draft Greater Cambridge Local Plan for consultation
Policy S/PRIA/EG: Eastern Gate
Representation ID: 203768
Received: 29/01/2026
Respondent: Cambridge Green Party
115524 would be a disaster for this community. Site 115524 was given an Overall Score of 'Red'. The exclusion of Site 115524 must be permanently enforced. That will protect our vital, extremely limited and increasingly pressurised local amenity space - noting St Matthew's Piece as the only public park in North Petersfield. Unambiguous evidence of this need lies in the sequence of five Planning Refusals since 2021 (none appealed), each pertaining to this area: 25/0432/TTPO, 24/0413/TTPO, 23/0119/TTPO, 22/0271/TTPO, and (most significantly) 20/04514/FUL.

Policy S/C/HGH: Henry Giles House, 73-79 Chesterton Road
Representation ID: 203770
Received: 29/01/2026
Respondent: Cambridge Green Party
We propose strengthening the policy wording by: requiring new buildings on Chesterton Road to reflect the style of those between Carlyle Road and Alpha Road; removing “where possible” to ensure full retention of the silver birch tree on Carlyle Road; and requiring, rather than encouraging, active travel links from Chesterton Road through to Grasmere Gardens.
Instead of: “b. Development should re-establish the building line facing Chesterton Road to
restore the townscape character and reinstate a finer grain of development in this
Area” it should read b. Development should re-establish the building line facing Chesterton Road to restore the townscape character and reinstate a finer grain of development in this area, and building style should be similar to those on the north side of Chesterton Road between Carlyle Road and Alpha Road”.
Instead of: d. Tree planting should be used to improve the Chesterton Road frontage, whilst
existing trees, including the silver birch tree fronting Carlyle Road, should be
retained and incorporated into the development where possible;
It should provide stronger protection for the silver birch tree: “d. Tree planting should be used to improve the Chesterton Road frontage, whilst existing trees, including the silver birch tree fronting Carlyle Road, should be retained and incorporated into the development.”
Instead of “e. Any new development should provide active travel links from Chesterton Road
into the site and, where possible, reconnect through to Grasmere Gardens.” it should read “e. Any new development should provide active travel links from Chesterton Road into the site and must reconnect through to Grasmere Gardens."
