Policy I/SI: Safeguarding important infrastructure

The Defence Infrastructure Organisation supports the wording in part 7 of policy I/SI and the supporting information at paragraph 10.55, which align with paragraphs 102 and 200 of the NPPF.
The respondent notes the Government's intention to strengthen support for and protection of defence sites as outlined in sections P1, P4, and P6 of the revised NPPF currently under consultation.
DIO believes that the wording in part 7 of policy I/SI and paragraph 10.55 also aligns with the proposed reforms to the NPPF.
Following the Greater Cambridge First proposals consultation in 2021 the Defence Infrastructure Organisation have been working with Greater Cambridge Shared Planning service in regard to the requirement and wording for a policy that safeguards the activities and supports future operational military development needs at Bassingbourn Barracks and Barton Road Rifle Range. We are supportive of both the wording in part 7 of policy I/SI and the supporting information at paragraph 10.55 which align with paragraphs 102 and 200 of the NPPF.
Whilst at the time of writing a revised version of the NPPF is currently out for consultation, the Councils will note the Government’s intention to strengthen support for and protection of defence sites through sections P1, P4 and P6. DIO considers the wording in part 7 of policy I/SI and the supporting information at paragraph 10.55 also align with the wording within the proposed reforms to the NPPF.
