Sound? No
Duty to co-operate? Yes
I’m speaking on behalf of Abington Stores & Post Office, the only village shop and Post Office serving Little and Great Abington. We are not opposed to development, but we are concerned that proposed retail and postal facilities at Grange Farm could undermine existing village services. What binding limits will be placed on the size, type and timing of retail to protect the village shop and Post Office? And what guarantees ensure road upgrades and sewage infrastructure will be delivered before large numbers of homes are occupied
The Local Plan should include a specific policy safeguard that retail provision at Grange Farm is limited in scale and does not include a supermarket or competing postal facility, in order to protect existing village services. It should also require that key infrastructure — road improvements and sewage/wastewater capacity — is delivered before significant housing occupation, not years later through phasing.
