Plant and maintain hedges. Plant many trees. There must be ditches in the area; make the most of them as habitat. Habitat corridors. Features like swift nest boxes, sparrow terraces, bat boxes, house martin nest boxes on the buildings. Try getting advice from the Wildlife Trust and RSPB. And don't let the developers tell you it's all too much hassle and too expensive as they will try to wriggle out of this one too.
